Hundreds of mourners turned out for the memorials for A.J. and Paul Petras, who were killed last week in La Crosse. Afterwards, people gathered for a prayer vigil for peace.
More than a few dozen gathered at Mary of Angels Chapel in La Crosse for a prayer vigil asking for peace. It will be a week ago Saturday that AJ and Paul Petras were murdered in their family store, Mays Photo.
Laura Lee and others came to the vigil today to find solace after a tough week.
"With the issues of last week it just seems right and fits in well," said Lee.
Viterbo student Josh Kohnhorst helped put the vigil together and says that it was created for a time just like this.
"This is the perfect opportunity to celebrate what is good in our world," said Kohnhorst.
All week he and his classmates have been putting on events for what they called "peace week," and Kohnhorst says he's had a lot of people participate.
"Thursday night we had another vigil down by the riverside park and we had a great turn out for that considering this is our first year," said Kohnhorst.
Investigators with La Crosse police have not released any new information. The police haven't identified any suspects in the shooting deaths of AJ and Paul Petras.
"It's a sad and scary situation when we don't know all the answers," said Lee.
